Peregrine Falcon Updates Page 4 of blog.

NEWS UPDATE: June 27:
9:30am No sign of Maize this morning. I think she was up on the rooftop out of site, but I did witness a catch by Majesty. Usually Barry does most of the hunting, but this time Majesty did a close range hunt and didn't kill the pigeon right away as if she was keeping it alive so maybe she can use it to teach Maize how to kill. Just my speculation, I could be completely wrong. She eventually took it to the rooftop out of site. It apears that I still have a bit of the jitters on the camera. Sorry for the fuzzy pics. There was really no excuse for them to be fuzzy this time. I had plenty of focusing time and shooting at 500/sec. Maybe I need to stop panning for a while. I'm starting to wonder if something is going on with the camera.

4:00pm Still no sign of Maize. Majesty took off over the river onto an antenna tower across the river while Barry flew across the sky as high as one can see and still recognize him. We stayed for about an hour. None of them came back to the Northbank Center while we were there. Not sure where Maize is. Out exploring or possibly sleeping on the rooftop?

6:30pm: Maize was on the ledge eating, mom and dad nearby.

NEWS UPDATE: June 28:
5:30pm.....Nothing new to report. I checked on them this evening and watched during their dinner time. Everything is going very well for the family. They get a little relief this week from the heat, but have about 4 days of rain ahead of them. This is nothing new for this family. They have had their share of storms already. In fact they should be pretty use to them by now. At least Maize is now big enough to fly to shelter, instead of having to stick it out on a virtually unprotected ledge.

NEWS UPDATE: June 29:
6:30pm.....I caught Maize at dinner time again. She was busy eating on the backside of the building. Mom not too far away as dad flew about in the strong winds. No new pics...

NEWS UPDATE: June 30:
8:00pm.....The Falcons were nowhere to be seen at their usual places. Northbank was clear as well as the Durant, the original nesting site. After waiting 40 min. there was still no sign of any of the birds. Off to the distance (downtown) I saw a large bird in flight and dart behind some tall buildings. I thought it maybe one of the adults. I drove in town to see if I could find the large bird. Instead I ran across all three, on three different high rises. Barry perched high on the Mott Foundation Buildings antenna tower, Maize on the Atwood Building antenna, while Majesty on top of a tall building a block away, near Churchill’s Pub. The parents were keeping close eye on Maize and both Maize and Majesty being very vocal. I assume, again only speculation that the adults were out teaching Maize hunting skills.

NEWS UPDATE: July 1:
7:00am....No sign of any of the birds at the Northbank, Durant or Downtown. Must be sleeping on the rooftops somewhere.

5:30pm....No sign of any of the birds again. I drove through the city twice checking what I could see of the rooftops, but it was raining and there are too many places for them to hide for shelter. I will hopefully check again this evening and severall times this holiday weekend.

NEWS UPDATE: July 2:
5:30pm....Drove through the city twice. No sign of the birds anywhere. I returned for another look at 8:45pm and found Majesty back at the Northbank Center then flew to her familiar perch above the of Hyatt Regency Hotel. No sign of Barry or Maize, but I'm sure they're not too far away.

UPDATE: July 3:
10:00am and also 2:00pm....Drove through the city without seeing any of the birds.

18th floor of Genesee Tower

Mott Foundation Building

UPDATE: July 4: HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
1:00pm....I finally found the birds at least two of them. They are now hanging around the Genesee Tower and The Mott Foundation Buildings which are back to back to another. They are very tall buildings and it's said that there were Falcons nesting on the Mott Foundation Building last year. I couldn't get close for identifiable photos. After closer look at the photos, I've determained that the two on the Genesee Tower were both adults. At first I thought it was Majesty and Maize as they always stayed pretty close to each other.

It's going to be harder and harder to find the birds now that they are flying so FREELY throughout the city. Blog post may get farther apart as I know there probably will be days ahead where I will not be able to find them.

UPDATE: July 5, 9:00am:
The two adults were still at the Gensee Tower and The mott Foundation building. They also flew together to the Citizens Bank building for a while, then took off for a hunt. No sign of Maize. I believe she maybe on her own now.
3:00pm: Only seen one at the Mott Foundation building, Stayed for about an hour, no others showed anywhere.

UPDATE: July 6 & 7, 6:00pm:
Looked all over the city for two days now and stayed at a good advantage point where I could see all the typical locations and the skyline for over an hour each time. No Falcons to be seen in any of the normal locations or in flight over the city. Could it be that they left Flint? I don't know. I will check on and off throughout the week and weekend. If I don't see them by Sunday I will close this blog and consider them on the move.

UPDATE: July 8 & 9, Various times:
Found the two adults on both days. Both hanging around the Genessee Tower building, The Mott Foundation Building and the Citizens Bank Building. Watched Barry bring food to Majesty tonight. Still no sign of Maize. It's been a week today since I saw the little falcon.

UPDATE: July 10, 5:30pm-7:00pm,
Watch Majesty and Barry for an hour or so tonight. They both were at the old Genessee County Savings Bank building and the Citizens Bank Building for quite a while, then Barry decided to take off and spend some time at the Northbank Center where Maize usually hung out near the pigeon coop when it got hot and humid. Majesty stayed perch on top of a window airconditioner at the bank. Still no sign of Maize anywhere.

UPDATE: July 11, 1:00pm
Majesty and Barry having lunch on the ledge of Genessee County Savings Bank building.

UPDATE: July 12 & 14, 6:00pm
Majesty and Barry sitting on the front ledge of Genesee County Savings Bank building. In two days it will be two weeks since Maize has been seen. As you can tell by my blog, this is very uncommon. I believe that Maize has left the area, or something had happened to her, which I find hard to believe. She was a very strong falcon and her mom and dad kept close eye on her. If she was down on a rooftop somewhere hurt I believe I would have seen some unusual behavior by Barry or Majesty. They both tend to look in opposite directions a lot. Not sure if it's for there own protection or if in fact they are scanning the skyline for Maize. Anyway, I do a lot of speculation. I just hope for the best for Maize and hope that one day she will return to the area. If not this year, maybe when she's ready to raise her own. As for Barry and Majesty, I wish them well and it's time for me the Falcon paparazzi to give them there space and live there life off camera. I've shot well over 3000 photos of this family and even though I kept my distance it probably felt like they were on a TV reality show of their life. It's been a great run. I've visited them practically every day, sometimes a couple times a day since Memorial weekend and enjoyed every minute; I hope you did as well. If anyone does see Maize I would appreciate a report, please email me the facts.

I will probably visit downtown every once in a while, but not anything close to what I've been and if I do come across something news worthy to report I certainly will do so here.

Thank you all for taking the time and the interest in my blog. I hope you enjoyed.
